A message from Fr. Dean:

The Great Lent - An Examination of the Soul

How are you doing today?  Are you in good health?

Hopefully you are walking, working, eating and sleeping well.  That you take the time to walk places, that you enjoy your work environment, that you are eating properly and sleeping at least 7 hours a night.

No matter how well we are at one point in life we have been to the doctor.  With the on set of a cold we self-medicate - taking pills, resting, drinking water - until the point we say, "It's time I go to see  doctor."  We go with expectation that they will diagnose the causwe of our illness and prescribe the right medicine.  And if they can't, we are referred to the specialist who will run a number of tests to determine our problem.  These are times of great anxiety, because we do not know what's wrong with us, and how it can be solved.

How are you doing today?  Are you in good spiritual health?

Have you ever thought of this question.  If so, how would you answer it?  You might be in great physical healthy but are ill spiritually.  Deep within sin is eating away.  This germ attack is not seen and does not often cause much pain at the onset.  However is ignored the sickness of sin takes its toil on the soul and often the body.  Its tool is anxiety, stress, dislike turning to hatred, self pity, greed and so much more.

Great Lent asks us the question..."Are you in good spiritual health?"  This period of time enables us to travel to the physician of the sould and examine our spiritual condition.  The Lenten period offers us the change to diagnose our condition and recommend the proper mediation for the cure.  Through prayer, fasting and the study of Scripture we can examine our spiritual condition and set upon a path of healing.

Let us not be ignorant of our spiritual life and our life with God.  We are all sinners committing various sins.  Our answer to the question of our spiritual health should never be..."I am at my best!"  Instead let us look inside of ourselves and weed out that which hinders our growth in Christ.

Now is the time for your spiritual check-up.  Call and make an appointment today!
